Falling coffee granules shoot take 3…

After attempting to take the same shot during the phase 1 induction and struggling on the focus of the coffee granules so I decided to re-shoot using a different technique which relies on a little post-production. Sam’s suggestion was to shoot the background separately to the falling coffee granules and then to bring the two images together to create the desired image.

SOMETHING NEW…

After being inducted into phase 1/capture 1 I really wanted to apply the skills I had learnt in the studio studio today so I decided to shoot straight onto the software Capture 1 which gave me on-screen images that I was able to edit straight from the camera live on screen during the shoot. Be;ow are the before images and the after images used to produce the 3 shots shown under the ‘after’ heading.

Liquid motion re-shoot: Coffee granules

As the previous shoot did not quiet work out I thought I would move onto trying to captures the movement of coffee granules falling from above into a cup. The movement of the granules if captured well would be crisp clear and the set/staged scene would use a mocha kind of coloured colour palette. Although I managed to capture the scene/set of the shoot well unfortunately what I saw on the camera screen to be focused was actually not focused on computer screen when images where seemingly ready for post-production.

Here is a handful of  UN-RETOUCHED images from the large amount that were taken:

Things that went wrong…

Liquid motion shoot:

– One of the main issues being was that the surface was far to flat for the ripples to be sustained over the duration of taking the shot.

– The reflective surface was difficult to control with the lighting, background and product.

– The product did not engage with the ripples of water as expected.

– The reflection of the product distracted the eyes form the focal point which was the motion/movement of the water.

Failed liquid motion shoot…

On my first attempt at shooting liquid movement/ liquid motion I tried to capture the movement of water ripples on a reflective surface with the product focus being a ring. Below is a few  of the images that I took on the shoot that didn’t pan out the way I wanted them too.
